For ‘remarkable’ developments on new thinking and acting about the significance of conversational practices see the item at the end of this post.

Readers of this blog may be interested, intrigued and delighted to learn that this way of being together is again being strongly supported to be held in an ‘iconic’ venue.

By this, I refer to the kind of socialising which has now resumed in the Adelaide Central Market.  For it is among the finest food markets in our little planet and is featured as ‘a place to experience’ for visitors to this lovely city.

Which for visitors – and many faithful local residents – is mainly focused on ‘shop and eat’ components. Plus soaking up the ambience and sense of history (150th anniversary this year) of this wondrous place.

To which is now resuming – after a brief break associated with the change of management – the social dimension of ‘meet and greet’.  This happens after trading hours on weekday evenings. The Market is open at night for its main business only on Fridays.

This ‘social dimension’ is now happening again in the form of social events on weekday nights.

These are named ‘Conversare’ (pronounced conversari) which comes from the Latin con versare – to turn or to dance together.

To gain a sense of what they are and what happens in these social gatherings here are two reports of these kind of events which took place elsewhere. (While these are quite long reads you may find them interesting).

One is about events in the USA a few years ago. See Conversare in America.

The other is to do with a ‘Happening in Hong Kong’, the place where the idea of Conversare was born and set in motion about a decade ago.

The essence of Conversare can be seen here.

Bookings for the forthcoming events in the Adelaide Central Market here.

To which anyone who wishes to come along and join is most welcome.

Included is a particular invitation to people living in the CBD (Central Business District) of the city of Adelaide. For there are now numerous high rise apartments in this area, a new happening. Just a decade ago there were only a few. Today there are many with more under construction.

Which has led to the idea of extending invitations to people living in apartments. Given that it is difficult to meet fellow residents in ways that enable connecting in ‘good talk’.

Including those apartments occupied by students from other countries here to study at local universities. With the notion that coming to a Conversare in the Market event could enable them to meet local residents. This has happened on a small scale previously, to reportedly mutual delight.

With these ideas in mind the management of the Market kindly offered to sponsor the production of flyers, the design and content of which can be seen here , to be distributed by hand to mail boxes in apartment blocks. And to be given to the concierge of apartments for students as these do not have mail boxes. In such cases to be posted on notice boards.

The first such distributions were carried out in the last few days. What was most gratifying to hear were the comments of some concierges who reckoned that this new way of enabling foreign students to meet with local people is “Such a great idea!”

For a comment of a student in Jakarta on her ‘take’ of this way of connecting with each other from what she noticed on the Conversare blog see here

Looking forward.
