Another place for conversing
This post is to mention that Conversare now has another location to add to those in Hong Kong and Padang in West Sumatra, Indonesia.
Which means that new opportunities will present for more people to engage with others they may not have met or do not know well in contexts in which rich conversation happens spontaneously and naturally. Contexts in which the primary activity is to participate through listening with a sense of curiosity.
These opportunities arise through my recent return to live in Adelaide, South Australia. When people asked “Are you going back there forever?” I responded “No, for good!”
In saying this I would add that my six years in Hong Kong were happy and adventure filled. During this time remarkable people materialized to participate in the early development of the Conversare enterprise, people whose enthusiasm and feedback have been highly inspirational. And so the caravan rolls on!
While the main reason for leaving Hong Kong was that my wife Carmen was offered and accepted a position in the Education department in South Australia there were others. Among these was the potential arising from living in a rather unusual and certainly most interesting place. Carmen and I were very fortunate to secure a rental apartment in it.
This is Christie Walk, a purpose built community created specifically to demonstrate how to live sustainably as a community in the middle of a city. Please do take a look around the website and that of the group which created it Urban Ecology to gain a sense of the principles and practice underlying this project.
I will be saying more about this place in the future. For now I will just mention that there is a community room which lends itself nicely to Conversare kind of gatherings both for people who are resident here and others.
I wonder if you recognize the potential of having this base as a means to extend the idea of coming together to treat each other well as a key element of sustainable living on our little planet, 3rd from the sun?

Wonderful to read that Conversare has widened its reach as far as South Australia, Alan!
You are there ‘for good’, and that’s not surprising. Your powerfully respectful presence and facilitation style at the Conversare events in Hong Kong always promoted positive social connections and interactions.
The Conversare events in Hong Kong were always greatly appreciated by the diverse range of people who attended these regular events were an ongoing demonstration that remarkably deep and constructive dialogue can easily happen when people treat each other well and are guided lightly by a master facilitator.
Your goodness is contagious, Alan! Looking forward to joining in on an event and catching some of it when I’m next in Australia!
Best wishes,
Andrew
I won’t guess I’ll be in Adelaide any time soon, much as you wouldn’t have guessed you would live in Hong Kong seven years ago.
Conversares are an event in which participants can have a choice of laying down their burdens and share the good parts of their worlds among each other. Nerves relaxed and horizons widened. May be one would discover a new direction to pursue.
Expand this expansion process!
